Computacenter, Europe’s preferred IT provider to enable users and their businesses ia publishing research highlighting that 83% of UK employees believe digital technology is critical to business success. Despite this 77% of employees say they are currently frustrated with existing technologies, resulting in nearly half (41%) considering looking for a new job in 2016 if this continues.

The research conducted amongst 1,200 UK employees and IT managers identifies that 86% of IT managers see employees across all age groups demanding more from their everyday technology. Demonstrating that it isn’t just the new generation of workers wanting the latest digital solutions in the workplace.

Paul Bray, Chief Technologist for Workplace and Mobility, Computacenter, comments “It has long been the case that a digital savvy workforce drives innovation and productivity. With 61% of employees now considering themselves to be Digital Natives, getting the right technology in place has never been more crucial for businesses than it has right now.

“The technology can range across a wide variety of solutions from smartphones to cloud computing systems. The important thing for businesses to remember is that employees want to be using the same technology in the workplace as they are at home. If businesses do not recognise this quickly and address the demand, they risk facing repercussions in the shape of lost employee productivity and engagement, which will damage business performance and potentially a loss in competitor edge.”

The research from Computacenter also found that organisations need to:
·         Ensure its fast: 95% indicated that speed of the technology was crucial to their everyday lives and ability to do a good job
·         Make it safe: 92% of employees believe that all businesses need to ensure networks and data are safe guarded
·         Keep it simple: 91% want easy to use technology to ensure they aren’t wasting  precious time with complicated systems as 57% believe the longer they have to wait for systems the less productive they are
Jamie Allender, Head of Physical Infrastructure, Computacenter, adds, “Many IT departments already recognise the need for progressive and diverse digital technology to provide a working environment that will attract and retain the best talent. What is clear from this research is that if the user technology and IT infrastructure of an organisation stifles, an employee’s ability to connect and collaborate no matter their age or technological understanding, they will be on the lookout for organisations which do.

“It is important that all organisations make sure that the user technology and the infrastructure they invest in creates an environment that release’s talent, empowering their employees to become more productive and collaborative. If it is the user experience we focus on first, then considering the end-to-end IT infrastructure is key to success, as is keeping the three S’s of speed, security and simplicity in mind at all times.”
