Stefan Dab, Managing Director and Senior Partner of BCG: “Our ambition is to serve large Belgian companies but also to create an international centre of expertise integrated in our European network. The activities of BCG Gamma are growing rapidly thanks to our capacity to combine deep AI expertise with BCG’s strategy and transformation capabilities. Furthermore, Belgium has a high-quality pool for the recruitment of experts, as our universities are at the cutting edge of engineering and applied mathematics.”
A marvellous opportunity for Belgian companies
BCG GAMMA transforms companies operational and business models by implementing artificial intelligence based solutions.
Stefan Dab of BCG GAMMA: “Many players are capable of developing algorithms, but few can deploy them on a large scale. Thanks to AI, our customers have an opportunity to radically transform their operational and business models. Our projects are generally large scale, with returns for our clients in the tens and even hundreds of millions of euros. AI is at the heart of these projects, but often constitutes only 20% to 30% of the efforts. The main challenge typically consists of the technological implementation or the integration into operational and business processes,” Stefan Dab underscores.
Examples of recent projects by BCG GAMMA include the customization of offers and promotions for the millions of customers of a world player in fast food, the real-time optimization of flight schedules for a European airline, and the dynamic management of credit risks for a leading bank.
Belgium, A pool of AI talents
BCG GAMMA employs more than 500 highly skilled specialists throughout the world across all AI and Data Science disciplines.
Stefan Dab of BCG GAMMA: “Our experts are mathematicians, engineers, computer scientists. They have joined us after several years of professional or academic experience. The choice for Brussels to set up the new base can be explained by the access to a highly qualified and specialized labour market. Belgium has a unique talent pool thanks to the high quality of our universities in fundamental and applied mathematics. Knowledge in AI is highly developed in Belgium and our academic research centres are world class.”
BCG GAMMA Brussels has also entered into a partnership with the UCL on the cofounding of research and sharing of knowledge.
Julien Hendrickx, Professor and former head of the department of applied mathematics: “We are delighted with this cooperation with BCG Gamma Brussels, which demonstrates in particular the excellence of the department of applied mathematics in the polytechnic faculty and the ICTEAM institute. This partnership allows us to establish the link between our fundamental research and applications in the field. It also offers our researchers and teachers an opportunity to work on concrete cases and test algorithms on data that are generally not available in the public domain.”
