Biffa signs five-year managed services contract

Agreement provides waste management leader with scalability and efficiency to support growth.

Biffa has signed a five-year managed services contract with IT infrastructure services provider Phoenix, to facilitate the management and growth of its IT infrastructure.


As part of the agreement, Biffa will migrate its core service storage environment into Phoenix’s data centres at Birstall and Farnborough, providing co location services.


Phoenix will also provide Biffa with online backup, allowing Biffa’s core infrastructure to be backed up on Phoenix’s Cloud based platform, which is based on a price-per-gigabyte model, providing scalability and commercial control.


Biffa was actively looking for ways to manage its IT infrastructure more effectively, in turn allowing it to develop its business model and sustain it for the future. The five-year agreement with Phoenix will give Biffa a scalable platform that will strengthen and develop its IT infrastructure, all while providing the efficiency and cost effectiveness it desires.

During the 2012 London Olympics, Phoenix delivered an ‘out-of-hours’ service desk facility for Biffa’s two contact centres to handle the increased waste management caused by the games. Due to the success of this, Biffa engaged Phoenix to upgrade its storage and server environment.
David Gooding, IT Director from Biffa commented: “The waste management sector is very competitive so to stay ahead of our rivals we are continually looking at ways to grow and develop the business, and non-more-so than our IT infrastructure. It was clear that running everything onsite and trying to stay abreast of the latest developments was not a valid approach and we asked Phoenix how to manage it more efficiently. The contract with Phoenix is a result of our close collaboration and we look forward to growing the business with their help.”
