Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), Ireland’s public service media organisation, has migrated its RadioMan IT infrastructure to Red Hat Enterprise Linux with the Red Hat Enterprise Linux High Availability Add-On in order to benefit from a cost effective, reliable and high availability environment.

RTÉ uses RadioMan System applications to record, edit and broadcast material from its nine radio stations around the clock. RTÉ was in need of the most effective environment to host the upgraded version of the RadioMan suite.

RTÉ chose Red Hat Enterprise Linux as it offered the most stable and cost-effective operating system with a strong reputation for delivering high-availability environments. Security, resiliency and disaster recovery being paramount, RTÉ deployed the Red Hat High Availability Add-On in a stretched campus configuration in order to provide seamless service continuity of the RadioMan system at all times, including in the event of a hardware fault.

Red Hat’s partner Sabeo provided technical design, deployment and testing services. Since the implementation, Red Hat solutions have resulted in a substantial reduction in the time spent on resolving technical issues by RTÉ engineers, who can now work in a more stable environment. RTÉ is currently in the planning stages of integrating Red Hat’s solutions into its next radio IT project, new IT infrastructures for digital radio stations and for RTÉ Radió na Gaeltachta, with the help of Sabeo.
