Latest Pretium EDGE® innovations

As datacentres continue to be squeezed in line with business needs, so Corning Optical Communications continues to innovate with a range of new additions to its Pretium EDGE solutions. Designed for ease of use and installation, the additional components enable datacentre owners to easily and cost-effectively migrate their cabling infrastructure to next-level applications, including parallel optics and integrated network monitoring.

New Pretium EDGE Universal Ultra Low Loss (ULL) Module
Pretium EDGE solutions for datacentres and storage area networks (SANs) now include an ultra low loss module to support longer links and address changing datacentre needs including reduced optical budgets. It provides ultra low loss connectivity for extended design flexibility to permit multiple connections within the system, while enabling greater head room for low loss applications like 8G or 16G FibreChannel.

Port Tap Modules and Harnesses
Traditionally, port monitoring to track the performance of a datacentre involved passive port tapping using a separate optical splitter. This created an additional link segment that could increase the likelihood of network downtime and higher overall optical loss. With the Pretium EDGE Tap Modules, monitored ports can be added without disrupting the system’s live traffic, and the elimination of the tap as a separate device reduces insertion loss in the link. They also can be integrated into the structured cabling footprint resulting in reduced downtime and link loss whilst increasing rack space utilisation and density.
