SimpliVity says that The Vollrath Company, LLC, a manufacturer of stainless steel and aluminum small-wares and equipment, has deployed SimpliVity OmniCube as its data centre and remote office infrastructure. The Vollrath Company has experienced a significant increase in operational efficiency, substantial cost savings and improved flexibility, scalability and data protection with OmniCube’s hyperconverged infrastructure.

“SimpliVity OmniCube is one of the most versatile hyperconverged infrastructure systems available,” said John Sharp, IT manager of infrastructure, The Vollrath Company, LLC. “Its native backup and deduplication provides incredible flexibility for use in branch offices where IT support staff may not be local. While its competitors had scale and flexibility limitations, SimpliVity was the only company that understood our approach and had the modular “building block” capabilities to meet our needs.”

With headquarters in Wisconsin, US and numerous other locations in the US, Mexico, The Netherlands, and China to oversee, The Vollrath Company had challenges concerning the optimization of data management in its remote offices and its ability to provide secure and reliable data protection using aging infrastructure. Prior to deploying SimpliVity’s hyperconverged infrastructure, The Vollrath Company relied on a third-party support team to assist its limited IT staff in managing remote office issues, adding $30,000 (almost £20,000) to its annual operational expenses. In addition, The Vollrath Company needed to upgrade to a solution that offered superior backup and replication for its mission-critical applications, including Microsoft SQL Server, File/Print Servers and Active Directory.

The Vollrath Company selected SimpliVity's hyperconverged infrastructure because of its capabilities for high availability, failover, replication, scalability and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). OmniCube’s deduplication, compression and optimization of data inline to disk and over the WAN allowed Vollrath to move data from an 80GB server across its T1 line in Wisconsin and back it up in its New York office using less than one percent of the network capacity and in fewer than 15 minutes – a process that would normally take several hours to complete and could trigger a disruption that could incur costly data loss to the company. Thus far, Vollrath has experienced 99:1 data efficiency, resulting in a 103TB storage capacity savings. This capacity saving includes copies made for backup and disaster recovery on local and remote OmniCube systems.

The modularity of SimpliVity's hyperconverged infrastructure allows The Vollrath Company to reconfigure the system incrementally as its requirements change. This “building block” benefit, combined with OmniCube’s Global Unified Management through VMWare’s vCenter, enables Vollrath to scale according to a pay-as-you-grow model and remotely manage its branch offices from the central site in Wisconsin.

“We’re thrilled to work with The Vollrath Company and enable the company to better manage its mission-critical applications across its facilities,” said Mitch Breen, senior vice president of worldwide sales, SimpliVity. “OmniCube hyperconverged infrastructure provides the flexibility and cost savings that many customers want and need as they look for solutions that will significantly reduce OPEX, improve operational efficiency and simplify the complexities of their data centres.”
