IO, a leading data center services company, has received a ‘Very Good’ rating from BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) for its new data center facility in Slough, United Kingdom.

“The BREEAM certification illustrates IO’s commitment to providing energy-efficient data center solutions for enterprises here in London, and throughout the world,” said Nigel Stevens, UK Managing Director, IO. “The 112,000 square-foot building was constructed with sustainability in mind, and our innovative modular data center offering provides customers with an efficient colocation solution that benefits their business and their bottom line.”

BREEAM is the world’s most widely used method of assessing, rating and certifying the sustainability of buildings. The organization continues to stay ahead of regulatory requirements driving greater sustainability and innovation in the construction industry across the world.

The team involved with IO’s fast-track build sought to identify opportunities early on in the design process to enhance the building’s efficiency. This included energy and water efficiency, waste and pollution minimisation, protection of ecological features, responsibly sourced materials and more.

“Not only have we built a data centre with BREEAM credentials, but we also offer our customers the transparency they need to drive further efficiency of their own data centre environment within IO,” Stevens added. “By utilising the latest modular technology and data centre management software, our customers have the unique ability to monitor and fine tune their power utilisation to ensure optimal operating efficiency.”

“IO is a prime example of the modern, technologically innovative and international industries who are choosing to base themselves on the Slough Trading Estate and as a result, bringing wider investment to Slough,” said Gareth Osborn, SEGRO's Business Unit Director for the Thames Valley and National Logistics. “We’re proud that the facility completed on time and to a high level of sustainability – it’s a demonstration of our ongoing commitment to providing our customers with leading edge facilities to help them meet their needs.”

The construction of IO’s new UK facility marks the expansion of their global footprint with facilities now available in the U.S, Singapore and the UK. The conversion of the former brownfield site in the UK into a BREEAM certified facility marks the ongoing positive impact seen in the region by IO’s global expansion. This news follows the additional jobs created in the wake of the appointment of Nigel Stevens as UK Managing Director earlier this year.
