Sungard continues Irish commitment

Sungard Availability Services ® has announced a further commitment to expansion in the Irish market with the appointment of Paul Slattery to the newly created role of Head of New Business Development, as well as an extension of its current ISO 27001 compliance capabilities to its new facility at Profile Park, Dublin

The announcement comes just three months after a partnership with Digital Realty Trust Inc, which saw Sungard AS add a state-of-the-art Certified Tier III datacentre facility, and its underlying infrastructure, to its Irish portfolio. It is expected that this expansion will create 50 new job opportunities with Sungard AS in Ireland, including that announced today.

A Stronger Strategy for New Business

Paul Slattery will report directly into Gary Watson, Sales and General Manager, Sungard Availability Services, Ireland. Slattery’s appointment is part of a new strategy for Sungard AS which will specifically centre on developing relationships and providing consultancy for both new and existing customers looking to expand their presence in Ireland.

With over 20 years’ experience, Slattery brings with him a wealth of industry knowledge and important strategic connections having worked for companies including UPC Ireland, Verizon (Worldcom) – and most recently represented GTT Communications as Sales Director for UK and  Ireland. Slattery also acts as an Adjunct Lecturer for the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School where he lectures on their Executive MBA programme, as well as giving back to the community by helping out on projects such as Jobnet.

Speaking of his appointment, Slattery stated: “I’m thrilled to be joining Sungard Availability Services, especially at such an exciting time for the company in Ireland. It’s great to see the growing demand from global businesses looking to host their data here, and to benefit from the infrastructure and knowledge economy that is rapidly developing within the region. We’re at a huge turning point for Sungard AS through our partnership with Digital Realty, and I’m looking forward to working with the team to attract some great customers, and create more jobs here in Ireland.”

Ensuring Customers are Compliant

In addition to this new appointment, Sungard AS has also seen an expansion of its ISO 27001:2013 standard accreditation to its Profile Park Facility. This follows an accreditation earlier in the year for its enterprise-grade shared private cloud environment and managed services offering in Ireland.

The ISO 27001 certification provides Sungard AS with an internationally recognised, independent verification which shows that it can securely manage information security, retain confidentiality, integrity and availability of all data. In order to gain the accreditation Sungard AS has proven that it has taken all appropriate steps to properly secure its data and the data of its Irish customers – helping businesses ensure that their mission critical information is both safe and readily accessible.

Commenting on the accreditation Gary Watson said: “In today’s market, which is increasingly focused around online services, everybody is so reliant on data, that security is now of critical importance. With upcoming changes to the law, with the likes of the European Commission’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), it’s vital that we can give our customers peace of mind that we are taking their compliance seriously. With the likes of financial service industries and government bodies increasingly moving towards a more digital approach, ensuring the safety of data is vital. Having this certification extended to our latest facility in Ireland shows that that we’re committed to delivering secure and compliant environments for our customers.”
