Future Facilities has announced the addition to its equipment library of 5-star rated models for the complete range of Fujitsu PRIMERGY servers.
Since its inception in 2004, Future Facilities has pioneered the use of CFD modelling for assessing the impact of data center equipment moves and additions prior to any work being physically carried out. The Future Facilities model – or Virtual Facility – is mathematically accurate representation which depicts the logical and physical attributes of the data center, allowing future plans to be assessed in order to mitigate risk, increase efficiency and eliminate lost capacity.

The accuracy of the Virtual Facility is dependent upon the quality of and quantity of data provided by equipment manufacturers. Future Facilities grades equipment models from 0 to 5 stars for maximum fidelity. The accuracy of the data must be vendor certified in order to achieve a 5-star rating. Where simpler models are involved, actual values will be measured in the data center to ensure accuracy for decision making purposes.

“The data center end-user is increasingly becoming more aware of the importance of fine detail as they work to achieve high efficiency goals, “ said Dan Richards, Technical Data Analyst, Future Facilities. “The high level of information provided by Fujitsu is good news, and demonstrates their intention to help data center managers to build and operate their facilities more efficiently.”

Vincent Bevan, Professional Services, Fujitsu Technology Solutions GmbH, said, “We have well defined processes in place to ensure that we continue to provide high level data to Future Facilities for our future product releases, as part of our ongoing partnership, enabling us to best advise our clients on facility and IT infrastructure decisions.”

Fujitsu Data Center OPTIMIZATION Services provide expert and proven consultancy to assist organizations to optimize efficiency and maximize efficiency in both new and existing facilities. The company utilises 6SigmaDC software for the assessment of data center facility design and operations, providing an accurate baseline for cooling dynamics.

“The 6SigmaDC software suite enables detailed analysis of the impact of future operational and infrastructure changes, so that Fujitsu can discuss data center design changes with our customers, as well as the use of our energy efficient PRIMERGY server range. The software enables us to perform the assessment as a simulation, without the risk of disruption to data center operations,” said Vincent Bevan.

Information supplied to Future Facilities by Fujitsu includes the temperature-dependent flow curves that are essential to accurately simulate the PRIMERGY server range at varying ambient air-inlet temperatures. “High level information regarding heat transfer is often withheld by equipment manufacturers,” said Future Facilities’ Dan Richards, “But this is precisely the information we need to achieve a 5-star equipment library.”
