NextiraOne UK has deployed a Core LAN Replacement at Murco’s Oil Refinery in Milford Haven. It includes upgrading core and key switches throughout the Refinery using Cisco technology that provides a platform for the company’s networking needs for the future. This will give Murco room to expand and the ability to implement additional services to the network.

NextiraOne undertook the physical work required to interconnect new and existing copper and fibre links and new cabinets as part of the distinct project to provide a ‘one-stop-shop’ approach. Implemented over two weekends, NextiraOne deployed a resilient and flexible solution to improve the network infrastructure currently in place as Murco’s existing equipment was End of Life (EoL). Operating in a 24/7/365 environment, failure of core or key switches would have caused major system disruption.

“In a competitive market NextiraOne was awarded the contract on successful completion of the bidding process,” said Teresa Hughes, IS Team Leader at Murco and Project Manager. “The team we worked closely with during the design process listened to our needs and requirements, creating a tailor-made solution. Downtime and business interruption was kept to a minimum which was key to the success of this project. The newly deployed system has dramatically increased resilience and redundancy within the network and has put the Refinery in a position to allow for further network improvements. We have previously worked with NextiraOne and their professionalism and level of expertise during this design and implementation was again a significant contributor to a successful implementation.”

NextiraOne consolidated existing cabinets and cabling, to create a scalable infrastructure for future expansion and development. 24/7 support offers Murco reliable IT management, and a less complex network that minimises possible disruptions.

“Murco has developed a reputation built on its robustness and reliability, and maintaining this quality of service was key to our work,” said Steven Skakel, Managing Director UK and Ireland at NextiraOne. “We wanted to provide a platform for future development and identify exactly where this could be done. We hope to continue to support and work with Murco into the future.”
