Ovum has announced the winners of its inaugural “BYOX Strategy” awards, recognising best practice in the roll out of BYOD strategy. At its BYOX World Forum yesterday, attended by over 350 business leaders, the global analyst firm presented University College London Hospital, SAP andIrell & Manellawith the recognition for BYOD excellence in public sector, telecoms and technology sector and industry sector, respectively.

Ovum’s “BYOX Strategy” awards were judged in association with the Technology Strategy Board and a panel of leading industry experts. Entrants were assessed on how well they met the specific challenges and requirements of their organization in relation to BYOD against a number of criteria, including; Employee Satisfaction and Engagement, Data Security, Technical Support, Reimbursement and TCO.

“Ovum’s research has found that corporate BYO activity remains steady, indicating that this is not a passing fad. With 20% of employees bringing in their own devices and apps regardless of corporate approval, there has never been a more important time to put a strategy in place to manage it, says Adrian Drury, Head of Ovum’s consumer impact on IT practice and head judge for the awards. “We are pleased to recognise University College London Hospital, SAP andIrell & Manella as truly innovative organisation that are ahead of the game in realising the true potential of a BYOX strategy and how it can improve employee and overall business performance and efficiency.”

Individual winners were commended on the following:
Best Public Sector BYOX Strategy Award 2013: University College London Hospital (UCLH)
“UCLH’s entry is a classic best practice example of how exploiting personal device ownership has enabled a BYOD program to be the first step on a journey to the wider benefits of enterprise mobility, which in this case translates directly into better patient care. UCLH conducted a number of pilot programs using tablets and saw the opportunity to revolutionise an archaic hospital admin process using smart devices. UCLH’s trial phase passed with flying colours and this has paved the way for a much broader enterprise mobility initiative to replace all current paper based processes with secure digital formats,” Adrian Drury, head of Ovum’s consumer impact on IT practice.

Best Technology & Telecoms BYOX Strategy Award 2013: SAP
“SAP's submission to the awards for its own internal BYOD program is an A+ entry. It demonstrates best practice with regards to policy and security implementation. SAP focused on managing apps, not devices, and has implemented mobile content management software. The BYOD program has been used as a driver to engage employees in developing useful internal applications,” Adrian Drury, head of Ovum’s consumer impact on IT practice.

Best Industry BYOX Strategy Award 2013: Irell & Manella (I&M)
“This program is the essence of a smart consumerization strategy. The I&M IT team observed that the lawyers in their firm were using their own devices and consumer file sharing services. Rather than try to prohibit this behaviour, the IT department at I&M moved to enable its staff to continue to work in this way but in a secure way. Now I&M's layers have a secure cloud collaboration platform that can work across a range of OS types. The program has broad buy in across I&M, they are more productive and it delivers a better service to its client,” Adrian Drury, head of Ovum’s consumer impact on IT practice.
