Enterasys Networks has launched a new solution specifically designed to simplify the complex challenges involved with managing multiple disparate physical and virtual components that make up today’s typical enterprise data centre. The new solution consists of three new high-density, high-performance 10Gigabit Ethernet switches along with more than 60 feature enhancements to the company’s OneFabric Data Centre Manager tool. It will be generally available from June 18.

OneFabric Data Centre 2.0, is designed to give data centre managers increased visibility into their data centre operations, enabling them to manage their virtual, physical, wired and wireless networks through a single interface.

The three new products that expand Enterasys Networks’ existing portfolio of data centre solutions include two new families of S-Series modules, S140 and S180, supporting dense 10Gb and 40Gb Ethernet deployments in the data centre; the 7100-Series of switches, designed for high density data centre environments, supporting up to 64 10 Gb Ethernet ports in a single rack unit, ideal for top-of-rack deployments; and the S-Series Corflow2, which is a custom flow-based ASIC, which provides a high level of programmability and scale.

Mark Pearce, strategic alliance director at Enterasys Networks said: “The tremendous growth of mobility and sheer amount of information in the enterprise, as well as the introduction of social and cloud technologies has forced businesses to think about the data centre differently. Our enhancements will reduce the complexity associated with the data centre and essentially make the lives of network managers easier.”

Phil Howe, technical infrastructure manager at the Royal Bolton NHS Trust said: "We have been an Enterasys customer for over 10 years and find the management capabilities of the OneFabric architecture invaluable. The level of control and visibility provided allow us to have incredibly granular management capabilities. All of this is delivered through a single interface, very simple to use and giving us the peace of mind that allows us to concentrate on other tasks, saving time and hassle which is especially important in our environment.”

Key facts:
• Compatible with any server or storage component in the enterprise data centre – physical or virtual
• Two new families of S-Series modules, S140 and S180, support dense 10Gb and 40Gb Ethernet deployments in the data centre
• The new 7100-Series of switches are designed for high density data centre environments and support up to 64 10Gb Ethernet ports in a single rack unit, ideal for top-of-rack deployments
• Supports data centre standards such as Shortest Path Bridging, Data centre Bridging for Storage Convergence and a simplified Data centre Interconnect solution
• Enables data centre managers to easily and flexibly provision the network to improve efficiencies and reduce OpEx, delivering simplified private cloud management
• Supports latest releases from VMware vSphere, Citrix XEN and Microsoft Hyper-V/SCVMM
• The S-Series Coreflow2 custom flow-based ASIC is a flow-based switch providing a high level of programmability and scale
According to Gartner, “IT organizations must focus on data center architecture to keep the business running. Optimal data center design ensures smooth IT operations, high availability, security, network connectivity, and energy efficiency.”
