“This partnership with CDNetworks will not only prove to be beneficial to Omantel’s customers in Oman through better Internet quality, but it is also a strong and attractive value proposition to international carriers and telecom service providers buying Internet capacity from Omantel,” said Sohail Qadir, Vice President Wholesale at Omantel.

Omantel is part of Oman’s advanced technological infrastructure, supporting e-commerce and an active Internet user base. Omantel has more than 50 direct connections with international partners, over 9 submarine cable landings, and multiple terrestrial border crossings linked with major expansion initiatives on the way. This combined with a strong regional presence, and unique access to the GCC and East-Asian countries, Omantel has placed itself as a strong international telecom player in the region.

According to A.T. Kearney's E-Commerce Index, Oman is in the top ten developing markets with the most potential for ecommerce. Oman’s internet users already comprise about 68% of the population of close to three million, but the healthy GDP per capita ($29K according to the International Monetary Fund) makes Oman a great online market for designer brands not always available at the local shopping mall. Also, Oman shares borders with the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, allowing greater reach to the Middle East.

“CDNetworks’ continued expansion in The Middle East helps our customers reach the fastest growing, and sometimes hardest to reach, markets,” said Jeff Kim, President & COO, CDNetworks. “Statistics show that the online population in Oman is embracing ecommerce and online transactions.”
