Standby power in the heart of Poland

A state-of-the art data centre in the very heart of the Polish capital is using a low-noise, 2.5 MW standby power system installed as a turnkey project by Cummins Poland. The Cummins Power Generation solution provides the back-up power that Linxdatacenter needs to support its wide array of services.

The Warsaw facility is the latest in a series of data centres that have been established in Central and Eastern Europe by Linxdatacenter, which provides data centre and connectivity solutions. The company has its headquarters in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Linxdatacenter focuses on enterprises, operators, financial and governmental institutions that are looking for cost optimisation, security, TIER 3 standard compliance and business continuity management. The company is an international and a carrier neutral data centre solutions provider.

Linxdatacenter operations have already been set up in Moscow and St. Petersburg in Russia, and in Tallinn, Estonia. Poland is an attractive location thanks to the country’s size and its diverse and growing economy. Warsaw has become a widely respected business hub for Central Europe, and ranks as the sixth largest EU city with a metropolitan area population of over 2.6 million.

Unlike other data centres that are located in Warsaw or in suburbs and outlying districts, Linxdatacenter is situated on the historic Aleje Jerozolimskie, a major road which runs all across the city centre. Not only does this give Linxdatacenter Warsaw a prime location for providing its solutions, but also it places it conveniently just 500 m from the international carrier node. There is no other facility with comparable features nearby.

The contract to provide standby power as a turnkey solution was awarded to Cummins Poland, thanks to its demonstrated track record as a distributor, its ability to implement a reliable and effective paralleling system, and Cummins unique integration of product design and development. Cummins Power of One™ means Cummins power systems are not just integrated, but pre-integrated so all components are designed, built and tested to work together, resulting in smaller equipment footprints, reduced installation time and higher system reliability.

To implement the project, Cummins Poland worked in conjunction with its regular IT integrator and electrical contractor Romi Sj. A 2.5 MW Cummins .

Power Generation system that includes three Cummins
Power Generation C1675 D5 generator sets and a DMC 1000 Paralleling System were installed to provide 2.5 MW of standby power. The system had to be installed in an existing building, with r emote cooling, exhaust, fuel and ventilation all as part of the turnkey package. Because of the building’s city centre location, the whole system had to achieve very low noise levels.

Cummins Poland installed and commissioned the work without problems, and the Linxdatacenter Warsaw is now operating with reliable standby power supporting all of its commercial operations. Over time, the Warsaw facility is projected to be joined by other data centres in other countries, as Linxdatacenter continues to expand its network of operations in the future-looking economies of Central and Eastern Europe .
