Oracle introduces the Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance

Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance enables rapid, repeatable software-defined infrastructure deployment for virtually any x86 application and workload. Customers can go from power on to production in about an hour and deploy ready-to-run virtual machines in just a few minutes. Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance is Oracle’s newest engineered system made possible by Oracle’s unique ability to engineer hardware and software together.

Oracle has announced the Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance. Engineered for easy application virtualization, it accelerates time-to-application use by enabling rapid, repeatable, full-stack virtual infrastructure deployment.

The Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance is a “wire-once” system that comes fully assembled and ready to run production workloads with minimal, software-defined configuration, saving customers hundreds of hours in labor and lowering the risk of physical and software configuration errors.

Built around a fast InfiniBand fabric, the Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance can connect to existing Ethernet and Fibre Channel networks through pooled interconnect modules that are transparently available to every virtual machine.

The Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance is fault tolerant out of the box, with no single point of failure. Application virtual machines can automatically restart on hardware or software failure.

Able to run Oracle Solaris, Oracle Linux, other Linux distributions and Microsoft Windows side by side, the Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance is a converged infrastructure platform for a broad mix of applications and operating systems.

Oracle is uniquely capable of delivering a complete full stack, integrated solution with hardware and software engineered together, with a single point of contact for support.

Oracle will host a Webcast today at 10 a.m. PT to discuss the Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance in more detail.
Rapid, Software-Defined Deployment, Easy Expandability

The Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance includes Oracle Virtual Assembly Builder. With built-in support for pre-tested, pre-configured Oracle VM Templates, customers can rapidly deploy entire application stacks including Oracle Linux, Oracle Solaris, database, middleware and business applications.

The Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance integrates into existing networking and storage environments, making it easy to re-host existing applications and deploy new applications that access existing data.

Adding an additional compute node to an Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance is simple: slide the new node into a rack, connect four pre-wired cables, and turn it on. The appliance automatically detects, configures, and begins using the new node.

The Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance supports Oracle Trusted Partitions which gives customers the flexibility to license Oracle software on a vCPU basis.

The Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance provides simplified appliance management and is fully integrated with Oracle Enterprise Manager for cloud and full stack management.

Oracle’s Sun ZFS Storage Appliances are the ideal storage expansion solution for databases and applications running on the Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance, delivering the high storage throughput, low latency, and flexible scalability needed in business-critical virtualized environments.

The Oracle Virtual Compute Appliance incorporates best-of-breed Oracle technologies including servers based on Intel® Xeon® processors, Oracle VM, Oracle’s Sun ZFS Storage Appliance, Oracle Virtual Networking fabric interconnects, and Oracle SDN software.
