Opengear extends remote infrastructure products

Opengear has announced a key extension of its ACM5000 remote infrastructure management product line with the arrival of the ACM5004-GS. This new addition to the Opengear family gives enterprise users 3G connectivity that has been tested and certified for use on the Sprint (NYSE: S) wireless network. Sprint Managed Network Solutions customers can use the ACM5004-GS as an alternative to a wired connection that enables Sprint to remotely access and troubleshoot their managed routers. This option offers a lower total cost of ownership and ease of setup over a typical wired phone line connection.

The ACM5004-GS offers integrated cellular and wired access to remote infrastructures, allowing IT managers a host of connectivity options to easily manage critical infrastructure at local and remote sites – helping to ensure uptime and business continuity. The first in the ACM5000 line to be Sprint-certified, the ACM5004-GS expands coverage choices for Opengear customers.

The integration of the ACM5004-GS with Sprint’s Managed Network Solutions provides scalable support and monitoring services for enterprise networks. This falls in line with a decided uptick in managed services adoption, which is expected to double by 2018 as companies outsource services to reduce CAPEX and free up internal resources. Sprint is meeting this need with comprehensive Managed Network Solutions bundled with MPLS transport and customer premise equipment to help transform businesses while increasing workforce mobilization, enterprise flexibility and productivity at lowered operating costs.

“We’re thrilled to integrate the speed and breadth of Sprint’s network into our ACM5000 stable of remote infrastructure management gateways,” said Rick Stevenson, CEO, Opengear. “Redundant cellular network connections are now cost competitive with legacy modem lines, and this product certification furthers our mission of providing enterprise users with a reliable, fast and cost competitive connection option for remote critical network infrastructure.”

“Sprint's managed network services are a natural complement to Opengear's hardware solutions,” said Craig Safir, director of cloud and converged markets, Sprint. “We’re pleased to introduce a wireless option for out-of-band that is simple to install and reduces the monthly connectivity costs for businesses. Add this to our simplified pricing and customized approach to managing customer networks with a single account team that understands converged, cloud and mobility solutions.”

The ACM5004-GS provides serial console-port connectivity, environmental monitoring, power management and monitoring, and remote storage of offline logs and running configuration files. As with other products in the ACM5000 family, it also includes environmental sensor support, a cellular modem that enables out-of-band access, automated remote monitoring and management, and enterprise grade security. Additionally, the ACM5004-GS comes with a USB 2.0 port, 4GB of flash storage, and a TFTP/FTP server.
