VIRTUS Data Centres Ltd has announced that, following a partnership with the London Internet Exchange (LINX), a world leading Internet Exchange Point, remote connection to LINX's extensive range of peering services are now available across the entire VIRTUS Data Centre network.

As a result of the partnership VIRTUS Data Centres has become an official LINX Virtual PoP (vPoP). A LINX vPoP is a data centre located anywhere in the world that has a direct route back to a main LINX PoP and any LINX operated Internet Exchange Point. The agreement means VIRTUS customers in LONDON1 (Enfield) and LONDON2 (Hayes) will benefit from being able to connect with other LINX members and exchange low cost Internet traffic without the need to have equipment at a main LINX PoP.

VIRTUS Data Centre customers, who already have access to VIRTUS’ broad ecosystem of network and cloud service providers, will now have the opportunity to peer with 520 LINX members from over 60 countries worldwide.

VIRTUS customers who become LINX members will benefit from reduced latency, increased resilience, improved transit performance and routing control as well as increased capacity and redundancy at lower cost.

Matthew Larbey, Product Strategy Director, VIRTUS Data Centres, said: “The ability to peer with LINX members will significantly augment our Cloud Connect offering and provide existing customers and members with immediate access to an ever increasing range of services. LINX connectivity is a great achievement and significantly strengthens VIRTUS’ position; providing customers with access to one of the richest connectivity environments in the UK.”

Ben Hedges, LINX Head of Marketing & Business Development, said: “We’re delighted that VIRTUS Data Centres has become a LINX Virtual PoP partner. By becoming a LINX member via VIRTUS Data Centres, networks will be able to exchange traffic in an efficient and cost-effective way with the rest of LINX's vibrant community of ISPs and network operators.”
