SSE lights up Hayes data centre

SSE Enterprise Telecoms is connecting LONDON2, VIRTUS’ new flagship data centre in Hayes with a host of connectivity solutions, including its LIGHTNOW optical networking service. LIGHTNOW offers high-capacity, ultra-resilient wavelength connectivity and already services 21 of London’s busiest data centres (including the VIRTUS LONDON1 site in Enfield) and a further nine in Manchester with 1Gb and 10Gb Ethernet wavelengths that can be provisioned within just seven days. Customers of the VIRTUS LONDON2 data centre will also benefit from high capacity Ethernet, IP transit and Internet Access services connecting sites across the country to the new facility following SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ investment in the facility.

Designed to meet the growing demand for scalable, reliable, on-demand co-location services, LONDON2 is a popular facility in the capital, offering 65,000 sq. ft. of Tier 3 design certified data centre space. SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ suite of diversely connected networking solutions will be available to the wide range of companies served by LONDON2, including those specialising in cloud technology, secure hosting, professional services and education, as well as those in the financial services and mining industries.

“Ultra-reliable, high-performance connectivity is a fundamental enabler for our rapidly growing customer base at LONDON2,” said Matthew Larbey, product strategy director at VIRTUS Data Centres. “With increasing demand for our data centre services, largely due to its strategic position – which is close enough to central London for low latency performance but far away enough to meet stringent government and financial services business continuity standards – we needed a network provider that could keep pace without risk of failure. With a provider of SSE Enterprise Telecoms’ calibre on-board, we’re confident that the facility will fully support the demanding enterprises that LONDON2 is attracting in the capital.”

“We’re delighted to be connecting VIRTUS’ flagship LONDON2 data centre,” said Colin Sempill, managing director of SSE Enterprise Telecoms. “As a company, we’ve made a significant investment in our UK network in recent years. Indeed, Project Edge was specifically designed to meet the needs of the enterprise and service provider market, where customers – like VIRTUS’ – expect speed, latency and reliability from their providers. Our innovative networking services, including LIGHTNOW, bring ultra-resilient networking solutions to a greater number of firms that have absolutely no tolerance for failure or downtime. Connecting prime data centres, such as the LONDON2 facility, in key business hubs, is part and parcel of our overarching objective – to bring our reliable, high-capacity networking services to the doorsteps of the UK’s most demanding enterprises.”
