CommScope takes the guesswork out of DCIM

One of the biggest challenges for data centre operators is the guesswork involved in planning and running the data centre. A new capability in CommScope’s iTRACS data centre infrastructure management (DCIM) software suite helps address this challenge through capacity forecasting that provides a more solid understanding of data centre assets.

iTRACS® DCIM 4.2 extends the user experience of DCIM with the iTRACS Capacity Forecaster™ browser-based engine allowing data centre operators to predict, understand and act upon their future capacity needs across the entire physical ecosystem, including power, space (floor and rack), cooling and network connectivity.

According to Gartner’s recent Magic Quadrant for Data Centre Infrastructure Management Tools report, “Visionaries either demonstrate a good understanding of where the market is going or have a compelling vision about how to change market rules. However, they may be challenged to consistently execute against that vision because of undercapitalization, a limited market presence, lack of experience, smaller company size or narrower market scope. As the quadrant's name suggests, Visionaries are often innovators that introduce new capabilities earlier than the vendors typically found in the Challengers and Niche Players quadrants. In the DCIM market, Visionaries tend to be well-attuned to the impact of broader data centre trends, including such things as integrated systems, software-defined data centres and alternative energy sources.” TheiTRACS 4.2 forecasting capability integrates data and information to predict the outcome of scenarios without relying heavily on historical information.

"Data centre owners and operators have been looking for a better way to turn complex amounts of data pulled from their DCIM solution into predictive insight across all physical data centre resources,” said Ernest Pickens, senior vice president of new market development, CommScope. “Our breadth of capabilities across the datacentre and understanding of the trends gives us the insight to address customer needs and we believe has helped position us as a Visionary with Gartner.”

In addition to iTRACS Capacity Forecaster, the 4.2 release offers better use of commissioning to enable faster implementation of new IT assets, thus reducing the lag time of experiencing the benefits of the new equipment. Operators can plan and execute more complex moves, adds and changes within the data centre environment faster and more efficiently.
