Symantec has introduced innovations to its Symantec Cloud Security Platform, further extending its leadership as the industry’s most comprehensive cloud security offering. As enterprises embrace cloud applications and infrastructure at an unparalleled rate, Symantec is enabling this transition to the Cloud Generation through stronger protection, greater visibility and better control of critical assets, users and data. The Symantec Cloud Security Platform delivers the broadest and deepest set of security solutions, delivered in the cloud and for the cloud.

A Security Platform for the Cloud Generation
Enterprises are experiencing a fundamental shift in the way their employees and customers consume technology. The influx of personally-owned devices, ubiquitous high-speed internet, and cloud-based computing platforms is redefining the traditional IT landscape, and delivering advanced operational capabilities. With the adoption of fully outsourced cloud applications and infrastructure, critical assets, data and users are moving well beyond the traditional corporate security perimeter.

Unfortunately, most security providers are simply providing isolated parts of what is required to secure these transformations, yet the cloud generation mandates a new model of integrated security. The Symantec Cloud Security Platform uniquely provides a complete means for the chief information security officer (CISO) of the modern enterprise to securely enable cloud adoption, while unifying both cloud and traditional on-premise environments for seamless security. Symantec is driving this transformation through a robust, open platform that integrates critical security and compliance frameworks while delivering the most comprehensive set of controls available to protect users and the organizational data with which they interact.

“The value to the enterprise of shifting to cloud applications and services is undeniable. At the same time, cyber criminals look at this new, borderless infrastructure as a potential goldmine,” said Mike Fey, president and chief operating officer at Symantec. “Because of the breadth and depth of our category-leading security portfolio, coupled with the world’s largest civilian cyber intelligence network, Symantec is the only cyber security provider in the industry that can address the challenges of the Cloud Generation holistically, enabling our customers to take full advantage of the cloud while helping to ensure their critical information is secure and protected.”

New Innovations Delivering Unrivaled Security for the Cloud Generation
With today’s announcement, the Symantec Cloud Security Platform gains entirely new capabilities for securing critical assets, data and users across the cloud continuum, while leveraging the power of Symantec’s category-leading security solutions to assist customers on their journey to the cloud.

Securing Users and Data Beyond Traditional Borders
  • Integrating Symantec’s Industry-Leading Data Loss Prevention with the Power of Web Security Service
Enterprises must ensure safety for mobile users and remote offices from anywhere in the world while, at the same time, protecting organizational data as it is in transit. Symantec has now integrated its industry-leading Symantec Data Loss Prevention (DLP) with its cloud-delivered Web Security Service (WSS), providing a seamless platform to help ensure a safe web experience and to protect organizational data. When combined with existing integrations across Symantec Email.cloud and Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), Symantec can now deliver its industry-leading DLP across web, email and cloud applications, providing a secure transition to the cloud generation.
  • New Cloud Malware Analysis Service Extends Advanced Threat Protection Sandboxing to WSS
As users and remote offices move beyond the traditional perimeter, advanced protection must follow them regardless of their location. Symantec’s new Malware Analysis Advanced Service (MAAS) delivers full behavioral sandbox detonation of files within WSS to help protect users from the world’s most advanced threats. This is in addition to the advanced multi-factor content and emulated sandboxing introduced earlier in 2016. MAAS now allows WSS to deliver complete behavioral detonation to stop the most sophisticated threats.
  • Speeding the Move to Cloud Security with New Universal Policy Capabilities
Enterprises making the move to cloud are often stuck with the challenge of manually creating completely new policy sets with new vendors, which can be a significant burden to deploy and maintain. Symantec now enables users to seamlessly extend existing on-premise policies to the cloud with the new Universal Policy for Web Security Service. This enables users to seamlessly manage policies across all delivery mechanisms – appliances, virtual appliances, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and cloud.

Securing Public Cloud Infrastructure and Platforms as a Service
  • Cloud Workload Protection for Amazon Web Service and Microsoft Azure Workloads
Without proper visibility, control and protection of public cloud workloads, organizational risk is substantially increased as enterprises move to leverage their applications in these cloud environments. To address this issue, Symantec announced Cloud Workload Protection to deliver automated security policy enforcement and protect applications from unknown exploits inside of both Amazon Web Service (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. Available today, Cloud Workload Protection automates security for public cloud workloads delivering metered usage billing, rapid workload discovery, increased visibility and elastic protection to help ensure safe cloud workload adoption.
  • Cloud-Based Web Application Firewall for AWS
As enterprises provision new cloud applications and services, it is critical that they secure both their cloud workloads and networked environments for complete application protection. In addition to Cloud Workload Protection previously announced, Symantec also announces support for AWS with its Web Application Firewall. Built on the Blue Coat ProxySG foundation, Symantec Web Application Firewall provides full reverse proxy, web application protections, Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) Top 10 coverage and unique content nature detection technology to help ensure safe application adoption in AWS.
  • Extending CASB Portfolio to Gain Visibility and Control over Microsoft Azure
Symantec’s CASB solution now supports Microsoft Azure, which allows organizations to monitor and log user activity while leveraging behavioral analytics and machine learning to detect account breaches. Symantec CASB makes it easy to alert, quarantine users and block unsanctioned actions, while providing powerful tools to navigate user activity logs and quickly investigate incidents.

“Today’s cyber criminals are constantly evolving their approach to accessing organizations’ data and the need for customers to use disparate solutions to protect themselves is a challenge in itself,” said Doug Cahill, senior analyst for Enterprise Strategy Group. “Vendors, like Symantec, that integrate multiple solutions to address cloud security holistically, help create operational efficiencies and allow customers to take full advantage of the cloud while helping to ensure their critical information is secure and protected.”
