Accenture (ACN) and Docker today announced anhave expanded their global alliance and announced the availability of container services within the Accenture Cloud Factory, providing industrialized solutions for enterprises to accelerate their journey to cloud. The new services focus on container enablement of applications and feature use of Docker Datacenter (Enterprise Edition - Standard), an integrated container management platform for developers and IT operations that brings security, policy and controls to the software delivery lifecycle. Supported by a global network of certified Accenture DevOps and cloud migration consultants, the container enablement services help clients reduce risk and costs while speeding the migration of business-critical applications to cloud.

Through the alliance, Accenture and Docker are collaborating on developing migration accelerators and best practices for enterprise clients adopting containers. Finnish Railways (VR) is leveraging the Accenture Cloud Factory to rapidly “Dockerize” components of a core business application and deploy to a Containers-as-a-Service (CaaS) solution on the AWS Cloud using Docker Datacenter; a success now being planned at scale across their application portfolio.

“We were looking for a way to modernize our existing applications while reducing dependency on legacy infrastructure and proprietary software platforms,” said Markus Niskanen from Finnish Railway. “Using Docker and the Accenture Cloud Factory, we are able to rapidly migrate our business application components into containers at a pace and economics we could not achieve internally. In the process, we established workload portability and a modern, secure software delivery pipeline for our business systems that has increased reuse and even improved our own employee productivity.”

As a Premier Docker Global System Integrator, Accenture is expanding its relationship with Docker to enhance its existing multi-cloud CaaS solutions, leveraging Docker Datacenter to provide enterprises with the capabilities needed to secure the software supply chain, expand workload portability and improve the resilience of applications.

“With 70 percent of a typical corporation’s global transactions running on legacy applications created for a different era, becoming an agile, digital enterprise is no easy feat,” said Adam Burden, senior managing director, Advanced Technology & Architecture at Accenture. “Containers enable compelling approaches for modernizing applications such as gradually decomposing monolithic programs into collections of independent and API-enabled services, while also supporting workload portability from laptop all the way to cloud. By using Docker Datacenter and the Accenture Cloud Factory, clients can take advantage of our experience and best practices from modernizing thousands of applications, reducing their risk and accelerating the benefits of agile and digital transformation.”

“Enterprises are using Docker Datacenter to modernize their traditional applications -- allowing them to ship software 13X faster, while greatly simplifying the maintenance of these applications,” said Roger Egan, senior vice president of Sales and Channel at Docker. “Because these applications are in many cases, the lifeblood of their business, we teamed with the enterprise system experts at Accenture to develop a factory model for migrating to and securely managing containerized environments across the entire software supply chain. Together, we enable organizations to quickly realize significant value, transforming both their application infrastructure and their business agility.
