Europe’s data innovators create diverse solutions to industry challenges

18 startups from across Europe join the Data Pitch accelerator.

Potential for industry to save time and money with data enabled tools and services from some of Europe’s brightest startup minds. Including:

  • Nanovare, a French company which has developed Mojo Pro to measure male fertility.  It is powered by a centralised data platform and uses machine learning to identify the causes of infertility and make testing more accessible and effective.
  • Transformative AI, based in the UK with team members from Estonia, is using AI and analysis tools from CERN to identify minute physiological changes in hospital patients that typically precede chronic conditions.  
  • MinoTour from Data Moove is an online concierge service for local authorities and tourists to their area. It will allow visitors to receive personalised recommendations of sights to see, things to do and events to not miss.
  • Next Question, based in the UK with team members from Lithuania, is developing a self-optimising, machine-learning retail inventory management system alongside Portuguese retailer Sonae, to predict retail and stock trends and improve efficiency in the retail sector.

Data Pitch, a ˆ7.1m three-year programme funded by the EU to build a stronger data economy in Europe and create an ecosystem of data providers and innovative startups, is today announcing the first cohort of 18 startups joining its accelerator programme. Each company will receive ˆ100K equity free funding, expert mentoring, investment opportunities, and access to data from established businesses and the public sector.


The first successful cohort includes companies from the UK, Italy, Greece, Germany, Denmark, France, Spain, Portugal and the Netherlands.  Each startup will be addressing an industry challenge from sectors including transport, tourism, manufacturing, healthcare and retail (see notes to editors for more details). Five of the challenges have been set by some of Europe’s most influential companies including German transport company Deutsche Bahn, and Portuguese retailer Sonae.  (See notes to Editors for details of all startups and challenges.)

Other startups joining the programme include:
  • Radiobiotics from Denmark help healthcare professionals analyse medical images of bones and joints faster and more objectively, with decision support tools powered by machine learning algorithms.
  • Ubiwhere from Portugal have developed an urban mobility platform which collects, processes and allows open access to transport data. They will be helping Deutsche Bahn to understand how people are using their transport services to get around, enhancing DB’s own datasets.
  • Visor AI from Portugal is developing a chatbot service for hop on/hop off bus services in tourist destinations around the world
  • Pharmawizard from Italy is developing an app to help people search for information on medicines, find the best prices and nearest stockists.

The first cohort of startups are tackling challenges for our health, transport and tourism sectors in new and unexpected ways, showing the diverse application of data to our modern world.
