onicWall unveils its 2024 Cyber Threat Report, shedding light on the surge of cyber threats and the growing need for data-driven solutions. As digital adversaries become more volatile and adaptive, organisations are turning to Managed Service Providers (MSPs) to fortify their defence mechanisms.

Bob VanKirk, President and CEO of SonicWall, emphasises the evolving threat landscape and the indispensable role of MSPs in bolstering cybersecurity. "Conventional network security isn’t enough," says VanKirk. "Especially as the cloud becomes an indispensable reality for businesses, the role of MSPs is shifting from technical maintenance to raising the bar on their customers' security posture."

The report reveals a significant increase in global cyber intrusions, with nearly 1 billion more attempts compared to the previous year. Cryptojacking volume surged by 659%, and encrypted threats jumped by 117%, highlighting the persistence and evolution of cyber threats.

Michael Crean, EVP of Managed Security Services at SonicWall, stresses the importance of proactive cybersecurity measures and integrated threat protection. "Today’s organisations demand an integrated approach for end-to-end managed threat protection," says Crean. "MSPs play a crucial role in helping customers navigate the cybersecurity landscape with confidence and resilience."

MSPs like Alex Tsukanov, CTO of Compass MSP, are at the forefront of defending against emerging threats. "MSPs use threat insights to build an actual plan with the necessary capabilities to keep our customers safe," says Tsukanov. "New threats are emerging every day."

While ransomware remains a persistent threat, SonicWall researchers anticipate a broader range of attacks targeting SMBs, governments, and enterprises in 2024. The report highlights key insights into malware, ransomware, IoT exploits, and encrypted threats.

SonicWall's patented Real-Time Deep Memory Inspection™ (RTDMI™) technology identified nearly 294,000 never-before-seen malware variants in 2023, underscoring the complexity of the threat landscape and the need for robust cybersecurity measures.
