In London, the Data Centre World Awards recognised the work of the SDEA team, who received an award for their contribution to improving energy efficiency. Their SDEA Navigator provides a tool for assessing sustainability in data centres.

The SDEA Navigator is an online measurement system designed to give a comprehensive view of data centre sustainability. As data centres consume significant amounts of energy and water, and environmental commitments increase, the tool provides a practical way to evaluate operational performance.

There is a global need for measurable metrics to assess sustainability. Many existing solutions focus on specific areas, leaving gaps in overall evaluation. The SDEA Navigator addresses this by assessing four key parameters: energy efficiency of infrastructure, IT system utilisation, carbon footprint, and water consumption. It uses 12 months of real operational data rather than theoretical values to provide more accurate insights.

The recognition from the Data Centre World Awards reflects the industry acknowledgment of SDEA's approach. Data Centre World attracts around 15,000 professionals annually, making the award a notable recognition for the team.

The SDEA Navigator illustrates a shift towards more comprehensive sustainability assessments in data centres. By providing an integrated approach, the tool contributes to broader efforts to make sustainability in the sector measurable and actionable.
