Belden has introduced the PPC DiamonDrop, a single-fiber drop cable designed for field terminations in last-mile and drop broadband applications.

The cable is designed for outdoor aerial and underground installations. It features a core design that allows the protective jacket to be peeled away, exposing the 900 µm buffered fiber in a condition suitable for further use, which simplifies the preparation process.

As broadband networks expand, particularly in less accessible areas, installation teams are often required to connect new subscribers quickly and consistently while minimising rework. The DiamonDrop is intended to support on-site operations without requiring changes to existing deployment standards or procedures. It is designed to be compatible with many industry-standard connectors and field practices used with flat drop cables.

Key features and characteristics include:

  • Enhanced cable preparation: The core design allows the jacket to be removed to expose the buffered fiber without the need for special tools.
  • Flexible connectivity: Compatible with most industry-standard connectors and hardware, supporting common termination procedures.
  • Outdoor use: The cable has a weather-resistant jacket intended for outdoor plant environments.
  • Installation options: Suitable for aerial deployment, underground installation within conduit, or direct burial. It is rated to support 150 ft spans under NESC heavy load conditions.
  • Compliance: The cable is compliant with RoHS 2011/65/EU and is also available in BABA-compliant versions.

These characteristics allow the DiamonDrop to be used in FTTX aerial and underground deployment environments, including telecommunications networks, rural broadband projects, and data infrastructure applications.
