Broadcom and Nationwide Building Society have announced an extension of their existing partnership focused on supporting Nationwide’s ongoing technology transformation through a hybrid cloud approach.

A key element of the initiative is the use of VMware Cloud Foundation. This integrated platform is intended to form the basis of Nationwide’s private cloud infrastructure. Its adoption is aimed at supporting secure, resilient, and scalable digital services, while also enabling integration across the organisation, including in the context of Nationwide’s acquisition of Virgin Money.

VMware Cloud Foundation is an enterprise platform that combines compute, storage, and networking with integrated management and security capabilities. In Nationwide’s environment, it is used to support the operation of both traditional and cloud-native applications, while maintaining requirements around performance, governance, and regulatory compliance typical of a large UK financial institution.

The partnership is positioned as part of Nationwide’s broader effort to develop a private cloud model designed to balance operational control with greater flexibility. This approach supports coordination of infrastructure across multiple brands while maintaining continuity of services.

Overall, the collaboration between Nationwide and Broadcom forms part of Nationwide’s ongoing technology roadmap, with VMware Cloud Foundation acting as a core component of its infrastructure strategy. The programme is intended to support operational consistency and ongoing service delivery as the organisation continues its technology development.
