Bridgeworks decodes WAN and data acceleration at Bletchley Park

Eighty years on from V.E Day is a time to commemorate those who fought and died for our freedom. For Bridgeworks, a couple of weeks after this year’s commemorations, it’s also a poignant moment to visit the home of modern British computing at Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire – the historic place where visitors can learn about how WWII’s codebreakers helped to secure victory over Nazi Germany by breaking the Enigma code.

Around 35 delegates attended the exclusive partner event, that was also supported by Nuvola Distribution, on 22nd May 2025. Jamie Eykyn, Chairman of Lymington-based Bridgeworks, gave the introduction and comments: “It was delightful to be talking at such an historic venue as Bletchley, which to us is poignant because today we still rely on cryptography to secure data transmissions over Wide Area Networks, and the work of Alan Turing led to modern computing.”

Eykyn served as an Officer in the Grenadier Guards and saw active service in the 1950s. He therefore comments: “It’s extremely relevant to hold an event near to VE Day, and it’s worth noting that Bletchley Park cracked the Japanese code too.”

“As far as Bridgeworks is concerned, one of the top applications of our technology has to be in the defence arena. It’s becoming more critical, particularly when data is encrypted. However, we have a good healthcare client in the National Institutes of Health too, and they get their data fast with the help of Bridgeworks’ technology.”

The idea behind the event was triggered by a conversation between IBM and David Trossell, CEO and CTO of Bridgeworks.

Accelerating Data Management

Eykyn remarks: “During the conference we discussed Data Acceleration in a Digital Transformation World, Partnering for Success, Acceleration Through Collaboration, and we welcomed Par Hettinga, Program Director Storage Support Service at IBM who gave a presentation on The role of IBM Storage Services in Accelerating Data Management.”

The keynote speaker for the conference was Dr. Richard Searle, Chief AI Officer at Fortanix who talked about what can be learned from the Bletchley Park codebreakers, and the importance of WAN and data acceleration for ‘Decision Advantage.’ Complementing this discussion, there was also an Enigma machine demonstration towards the end of the day.

UK’s Premier High-Performance Computing Channel Partner and guest speaker, Laurence Horrocks-Barlow, who works as the technical director of OCF, and Matthew Dyson, Software Engineer at Bridgeworks also discussed Acceleration Through Collaboration.

Successful event with historical insight

Antony Reynolds, Vice-President of Federal and National Security Business Global Channels Leader at Bridgeworks Ltd, comments:

“It was very special to be at a heritage site that is an icon for embryonic computing and breakthrough cryptographic science.  The stories of devotion to duty, tenacity and brilliance of the Bletchley Park Codebreakers, many of which were Women, was both inspirational and humbling.”

He served between 2006 and 2024 in the RAF Reserve on Operations and in roles that included Royal Family and VIP Flight Tasking, Fast Jet and Air Mobility, and Tactical Air Traffic Control Operations.

Echoing the pioneering spirit

Bridgeworks hopes that the event will reinforce its brand commitment to technological excellence and innovation, and that its sponsorship of Bletchley Park will help to support the preservation of an historic site that represents the roots of modern computing. Bridgeworks was joined by computing giants such as IBM - a customer of Bridgeworks, in supporting Bletchley Park.

Trossell emphasised how proud Bridgeworks is to support Bletchley Park, and he considers the sponsorship as being part of a shared commitment to further push boundaries of what is possible in WAN and data acceleration.

Future Events

Bridgeworks welcomes customers and partners to join or visit us at the following events, which it hopes will further raise awareness of its unique technology, which uses artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data parallelisation to mitigate the effects of latency and packet loss.

Its next event is:

DSEI at ExCel, London, 9-12 September, Stand C05, Bridgeworks Capability Showcase with the UK DEFENCE AND SECURITY EXPORTS UK, (Department for Business and Trade) https://www.dsei.co.uk/

At this event, Bridgeworks will disclose why increasing bandwidth doesn’t increase bandwidth utilisation, and why the answer to securely accelerating data across Wide Area Network isn’t WAN Optimisation.
