Gordon Murray Group, the British manufacturer of exclusive lightweight supercars, has selected managed workplace services (MWS) provider Apogee Corporation to streamline and automate its IT management infrastructure.

The partnership includes overseeing and managing all of Gordon Murray Group’s IT assets, including 350 laptops, which has already delivered significant time savings. IT staff have been freed from time-intensive manual configuration and laptop imaging, allowing them to complete device set ups 30 times faster than before.

Gordon Murray Group turned to Apogee to overcome several challenges it was facing in managing its IT estate, which were consuming critical resources and stifling productivity across its employee base. The business was spending excessive time configuring new laptops and struggling with a lack of standardisation, while being tied to purchasing rapidly ageing IT assets through a capital expenditure (CAPEX) arrangement.

Following a thorough audit of Gordon Murray Group’s existing IT infrastructure, Apogee deployed an automated and secure approach to device configuration, deployment and management through the implementation of Windows Autopilot and Microsoft Intune. This has significantly boosted efficiency and security, reducing IT workload and enabling a seamless user experience for its workforce.

To ensure employees can quickly get up and running with consistent, secure and optimised laptops, Apogee reduced the company’s 60-70 different device models down to just two standardised models. Gordon Murray Group’s inventory and device management has been dramatically simplified and streamlined as a result, and all devices are aligned with Center for Internet (CIS) benchmarks, ensuring secure system configurations and safeguarding sensitive data.

Wayne Clements, Head of IT at Gordon Murray Group, said: “Being a young, niche manufacturer, agility is absolutely key for us. But the IT function was struggling to meet the demands of the wider organisation when we brought new users on board or needed to replace devices for existing employees, leading to problems managing the overall estate. With Apogee as one of our key strategic IT suppliers, our colleagues are benefiting from updated hardware, consistent secure builds and rapid deployment. The level of support we have received has been fantastic. The team is completely dependable, knowledgeable and fully trusted.”

Apogee’s solutions are delivered under a flexible operating expenditure (OPEX) model. This ensures that the Gordon Murray Group gains access to the latest HP devices without incurring large upfront capital expenditures. This transition to an OPEX model brings greater financial agility and predictability, enabling the company to invest in the most critical areas of its business.

Max Robson, Account Director, Apogee Corporation, said: “With this project, we’ve become a trusted technology partner for Gordon Murray Group. This ongoing collaboration allows us to continuously support the company’s growth and innovation, ensuring their IT infrastructure evolves in tandem with their business needs.”

The two companies will continue to enhance the onboarding experience for new hires by providing co-branded welcome boxes containing ready-to-use laptops.
