Rackspace Technology, a player in the hybrid cloud and AI solutions spaces, has announced a strategic partnership with Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. This collaboration sees Rackspace take on the role of a primary IT infrastructure provider, tasked with hosting and managing Dell Med’s healthcare-related data centre requirements. Key among these is the management of the Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) and associated workloads.

With a focus on digital transformation, Dell Med has entrusted Rackspace to deliver a fully managed service model for its hosted data centre and Epic systems. This collaboration sets the stage for Epic to become the backbone of the medical centre’s EHR platform, extending its reach to future clinics and hospitals.

Michael Ryan, CIO and Chief Administrative Officer at Dell Med said, "Partnering with Rackspace for our hosted data centre needs is crucial to our continued success, and the Epic deployment will be one of the first big steps in our joint journey forward. The Rackspace team will not only provide primary hosting for our Epic deployment and other application workloads but also a fully managed service model that ensures a seamless transition and operational excellence."

Both parties have committed to transformative initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare service delivery, medical education, and research. By leveraging Rackspace's infrastructure expertise, Dell Med seeks to overhaul healthcare access and service delivery, thereby significantly upping the ante in patient care standards.

"Transformative solutions like ours can significantly improve operational efficiencies, and we are proud to work alongside such a prestigious organisation," said Harjott Atrii, Senior Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer for Private Cloud, Rackspace Technology. "We recognise the importance of being a trusted partner in healthcare technology, and our experience in delivering critical capabilities positions us to effectively support Dell Med’s mission, demonstrating how advanced cloud solutions can redefine Healthcare IT."

Looking ahead, Dell Med envisions an academic medical centre devoid of traditional physical data centres. In alignment with its long-term digital strategy, Rackspace will play a critical role by hosting vital components of the system’s digital infrastructure. This includes Epic and other clinical workloads, all facilitated through secure, compliant cloud services designed to bolster patient safety, adhere to regulatory standards, and ensure system resilience.
