Westcon-Comstor, a renowned global technology provider, has marked a significant milestone in its sustainability journey by collaborating with ecoDriver, an expert in energy management and sustainability solutions.

Following a successful trial across three UK locations, ecoDriver, alongside delivery partner Powercor, has executed a cutting-edge energy management system (EMS). This system processes electricity usage data from Westcon-Comstor's European sites into centralised insights, revolutionising how energy consumption is managed.

The deployment of this sub-metering system provides real-time, actionable data on energy usage, empowering the distributor's sustainability teams to transition from tedious manual tasks to impactful, evidence-based strategies. This scalable model allows Westcon-Comstor to target emission reductions with precision across its European footprint.

By correlating energy use with building occupancy and local weather, Westcon-Comstor is equipped to root out inefficiencies, working closely with local teams. As more sites integrate with the ecoDriver system, the company envisions a gamified approach, fostering eco-friendly behaviours through benchmarks and data-driven competitions across buildings.

This collaboration aligns with Westcon-Comstor’s commitment to a 2050 net-zero ambition, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in 2023. This step not only promotes sustainability but also harnesses the power of data to drive continuous improvement.

The company's latest annual Responsible Business report underscores its achievements, with 50% of its global electricity now sourced from renewables, a jump from 42% last year. This advancement propels Westcon-Comstor towards its 2030 goal of 100% renewable energy. Furthermore, the organisation is nearing the halfway mark in reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2030—emissions that the company directly controls.

Sarah McGaw, Global Head of Environmental Sustainability at Westcon-Comstor, emphasises the pivotal role of data in this initiative. She notes, "Having access to a single source of truth for our energy and emissions across Europe will allows us to identify, quantify and act on opportunities to make further reductions in line with our ambitious climate targets and commitment to helping create a more sustainable IT channel"

Similarly, Matthew Boyham, Sales Manager at ecoDriver, remarks on the innovation, stating, "Westcon-Comstor's partnership with ecoDriver is a clear example of how strategic sub-metering and intelligent software can identify inefficiencies and accelerate progress towards decarbonisation goals"
