OutSystems has introduced Agentic Systems Engineering, a new approach to AI development aimed at helping organisations build, manage and evolve governed agentic systems in enterprise environments.

As AI-driven development continues to expand, the company highlights challenges faced by developers. While AI agents can generate code rapidly and have led to a growing number of tools, this has not necessarily improved software quality or architectural consistency. Legacy systems can also limit innovation, increasing the complexity of data management and integration.

Agentic Systems Engineering is designed to address these issues by supporting more structured and connected enterprise architectures. It provides the context and guardrails needed for agents to operate, with a focus on delivering systems that are reliable, secure and compliant.

A core component of this approach is the OutSystems Enterprise Context Graph, which builds on the company’s existing architecture. It is designed to provide agents with the context required to work across complex enterprise systems.

The Enterprise Context Graph offers a real-time view of enterprise architecture, including applications, agents, workflows, data and their interdependencies, enabling organisations to apply agentic technologies across their systems.

Using this foundation, the latest version of OutSystems Mentor integrates Agentic Systems Engineering within the platform. It includes conversational application generation and an integrated development environment experience, supporting developers in building and evolving systems with greater architectural consistency and efficiency.

OutSystems also positions the approach within an open ecosystem, where enterprise context and governance apply across different agentic tools. Developers can use a range of tools to inspect, extend and build on the platform while operating within shared controls.

This approach is intended to support secure and production-ready enterprise software development, combining flexibility with a governed architecture. OutSystems plans to open an early access programme to customers in mid-2026.

Early implementations of Agentic Systems Engineering are being explored by organisations including Kent State University, valantic, AllianceCorp Manufacturing and SRS Distribution, which report improvements in development speed and productivity.
