The Canopius Group, a global specialty and P&C (re)insurer, has introduced a cyber war insurance product aimed at addressing risks associated with cyber warfare.

Cyber warfare is increasingly viewed as a business risk, with the potential to disrupt operations, impact critical systems, and affect financial stability. As geopolitical tensions increasingly extend into digital environments, organisations can be exposed to threats that have traditionally been associated with government and defence contexts.

The product provides coverage for state-sponsored cyberattacks carried out during physical conflicts, as well as state-sponsored attacks that cause significant disruption even without a formal declaration of war.

The coverage is currently available on a limited basis and can be added alongside a traditional cyber insurance policy, with Canopius acting as the lead primary insurer.

The launch reflects the company’s focus on addressing emerging cyber risks, including those linked to complex and evolving threat environments.
