Apricorn, a provider of hardware-encrypted external storage solutions, has announced updates to its Aegis Secure Key 3.0 (ASK3). The changes include performance improvements and additional environmental protection features intended to increase durability in challenging operating conditions.

The ASK3 is expected to align with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cryptographic Module Validation Program (CMVP) requirements and is intended for FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validation. It is designed for use in sectors such as government, healthcare, and finance.

Faster data handling: The device uses a mini solid-state drive (SSD) architecture within a USB flash drive form factor. The latest ASK3 supports capacities up to 2TB and data transfer speeds of up to 220 MB/s. It is intended for use cases involving large volumes of sensitive data, including remote and air-gapped environments.

Environmental protection: The device includes a protective circuit designed to stop operation under unsafe conditions and resume once conditions return to acceptable levels, with the aim of reducing the risk of hardware or data issues.

The ASK3 continues to include hardware-based encryption and a software-free authentication system. It is designed for use in environments where secure portable storage is required.

The updated Aegis Secure Key 3.0 from Apricorn is available through global resellers, with FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validation still pending completion of the NIST CMVP process.
