Installers, Mac-Mech and Co, collaborated with distributors Logicool to specify and install two Panasonic P Series units – models UPU30 & UPU50 (30kW & 50kW), ensuring a more energy-efficient cooling provision.

Vince King, Eurostar’s Infrastructure Engineering Manager commented, “The two Panasonic P series close control units supplied and installed by Mac-Mech and Co in our 2nd floor IT suite are superior to the previous units, as they are quieter, more efficient and more cost effective to maintain. The design of the units ensured a streamlined and straightforward installation process for Mac-Mech and Co. We shall be replacing the four remaining older units onsite with Panasonic units over the next two years.”

The Panasonic P Series units selected for the project, provide strict control of room temperatures and humidity making the perimeter unit an essential for data centre applications, whilst having a very high energy efficiency ratio (EER) and low operating costs. The P Series close control air conditioners offer cooling solutions for an array of special applications requiring strict and tailored temperatures.

Matt Campbell, Contractors Manager for Mac-Mech and Co, stated, “The old units cooling the IT Suite at the depot were over 20 years old and no longer effective. After researching competitor options, we found that the Panasonic units had a shorter delivery lead time, offered better value, and were easier and quicker to install compared to other market alternatives. The connections are more accessible, and the instructions for connecting the cable between the two units are straightforward.”

Since acquiring Tecnair in February 2023, Panasonic has concentrated on delivering customised close control solutions for data centres. With over three decades of sector-specific expertise, Tecnair offers state-of-the-art solutions, driven by Panasonic's continuous research and development efforts and close collaboration with customers. The Techline Series exemplifies this dedication, featuring four meticulously engineered solutions that uphold and enhance Tecnair's reputation as a leader in the close control air conditioning sector.

Karl Richardson - Managing Director and Climate Control Specialist at Logicool Air Conditioning & Heat Pumps Limited added, “We were delighted to work with Mac-Mech on this project. They came to Logicool with this application requirement and the new Panasonic P Series units fitted the bill perfectly. Utilising the proven Tecnair technology allowed us to propose a simple, effective and cost-efficient solution to the end-user. We are pleased to see that both the contractor and the end-user are delighted with the performance of the product.”

The Panasonic P Series units installed in the project at Eurostar’s Maintenance depot are designed for precision air conditioning, offering a high Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER), and a wide range of accessories, making them ideal for data centres and other high electronic density rooms. The units come in two versions either upflow or downflow air discharge configurations. For this project the downflow configuration was used.

Although optimised for data centres, the technical characteristics of the P series units make them ideal for various types of special applications, including: metrology labs, TV production studios, musical instrument recording and storage rooms, museums and archives, control rooms in power stations and railway junctions. They are ideal for use in many industrial sectors including, optics, electronics, electromedical devices, electrical or electronic equipment production and musical instrument production.
