Centacare updates disaster recovery with 11:11 Systems

Centacare Catholic Community Services enhances its infrastructure with 11:11 Systems, aiming to achieve resilient disaster recovery and reduced costs.

11:11 Systems, a managed infrastructure solutions provider, has published a case study outlining its work with Centacare Catholic Community Services. The project focused on updating Centacare’s disaster recovery infrastructure and improving cyber resilience while reducing operating costs.

Centacare, which has supported communities in South Australia for more than 80 years, was operating legacy disaster recovery hardware that had reached end-of-support status. The existing environment did not include air-gapping, increasing exposure to ransomware risk. The IT team was also unable to carry out isolated failover testing, limiting confidence in recovery processes in the event of a major cyber incident.

Centacare selected 11:11 Systems to implement a broader strategy rather than simply replace hardware. The solution included 11:11 Disaster Recovery as a Service for Zerto, 11:11 Cloud Backup for Veeam Cloud Connect, and 11:11 Object Storage for AWS. The updated environment was designed to strengthen resilience and modernise disaster recovery capabilities.

Brenton Denney, Manager of ICT Services at Centacare Catholic Community Services, said 11:11 Systems took a consultative approach, questioning existing processes rather than replicating them, which led to a wider discussion about improving resilience and network design.

Following the implementation, Centacare moved to an air-gapped disaster recovery model intended to address contemporary cyber risks. The organisation also reduced its Azure data storage costs by switching to 11:11’s S3-compatible storage. The savings were reinvested into expanded immutable backup storage to further protect critical data.
